The company I’m part of rented the space, and it was quite nice. The theatre was spacious and the wings were not bad. Nicely sized house. Though the dressing rooms are next to a tap room, they are great for privacy. Only thing is that it is a tad bit confusing getting around, but overall it is quite nice.

The 2025 version of the Alvin Ailey presentation was disappointing. The show started late (3/1/25) at the Academy of Music.
I thought the show was low budget with no scenery or backdrops. The story was confusing, the dancers were not in sync and it was overall very sloppy. I have seen them perform before and they were spectacular!!
I guess time and changes have changed the choreography. Perhaps they should do Revelations first to give you something to look forward to. I left early due to intense boredom and requested a cancelation/refund for 2 tickets to the Sunday (3/2) show.
Hopefully, they will increase their budget for more props and scenery.

Very unprofessional ! I scheduled a class with them today (3/10/25), only for it to get canceled 20 mins before class starts. Mind you, I traveled from Long Island to Manhattan just for me to get the cancelation email as I got off the train. I had made so many arrangements to attend this class just for it to be canceled as Im walking to it. I am Dissapointed, to say the least. I wish folks would value people's time!!!

The dancers were boring. The presentation was sloppy. The clothing looked like it was thrown together. It was a tragedy. I have seen them perform so much better. People were leaving early. It was not worth the money. A white man sat in front of me and stated, " I don't like black ballet. " I was embarrassed.

Oh my goodness this show was a teeny tiny budgeted disappointment. I bragged so hard to friends & family how privileged I felt to be able to experience this dance production and to my surprise it was horrible. I DEMAND a refund

The last time I visited NYC, I totally forget Ailey was here. I didn’t forget and found the location this time. I wanted to take the Hip Hop class but time didn’t allow for it. No worries because classes are offered online. If I lived in Manhattan…this location would be a part of my life! Love Ailey and attend the performances every Spring in Chicago! So glad I was able to find the location.

So disappointed. Been here many times for auditions in the past and several open classes. The facilities are gorgeous and the teachers I had taken class with were wonderful - but the cost of class and their protocols for open community class passes are ridiculous. Besides the immense difficulty to get assistance on the phone (they refuse to help you before 5pm even tho the open classes are happening all throughout the day), it’s not a place for you if you don’t have deep pockets.
***With a $6 million net income (public record as it’s a non profit and $49.3mil. In revenue) it is quite honestly extremely sad and disheartening that they don’t have any interest in offering assistance to professional dancers of low income. As a company that should be a pioneer for paving the way for dance opportunities and facilitating dance accessibility to all- they seem to have absolutely no interest in actually practicing this. Will never return here again for an open class unfortunately due to the immense difficulty I had with the desk staff and unhelpful service I experienced that makes me feel unwelcome and hypocritical to my stance for dancer inclusivity.
