This organization has been a Godsend for me and my life. I am on disability and it seems like every time I feel a bit better from my autoimmune condition, something calamitous happens. With being on disability and living in affordable housing, although I am EXTREMELY grateful for both of those things, there just never is "wiggle room" at the end of the month--especially when things pop up as they tend to do. I can honestly say I couldn't have done it without Opportunities. Literally every staff member I've spoken to or corresponded with has been topnotch. Thank you for helping people like me ensure they have a stable foundation--can't live without one.

The lack of communication is very unprofessional. I contacted the office repeatedly via email and phone calls to get confirmation that they did indeed receive my documents sent via email and a status update and to offer my assistance to expedite matters. I applied months ago and then moved. I applied again and was sent a letter stating they didn’t have the information I have confirmation of them receiving and to resubmit. I was more than happy to do so and had it submitted on a couple of hours after the letter arrived in the mail. Laura Torres has been least professional in her emails to tell me she ‘only processed on Fridays’, or that a letter had been sent out (the one I already responded to), and yet, 3 Fridays later plus an email from Kori Ince (Program Director Community Services) stating I would get an update via email, here I am with no update. When I called again today(Friday), Brittany states there is no one in the office except her today and she will try to find out something before end of day. I asked if the email from Kori, stating that I would get an email about a status update was accurate, and she said no.
When people are experiencing a hardship the very least they will expect is a tiny bit of respect from the people they have reached out to for support. This comes in simple things such as a simple, kind, and respectful response to emails that things have been received and an accurate amount of time to wait for a response on the case. When that date arrives, send an email to notify them of any additional time or documents that are needed. Often when asking for help it’s time sensitive and even the act of asking for help is difficult. Leaving a potential client hanging is incredibly inconsiderate and adding to the stress of someone situation and potentially worsening conditions.
If applying, I would caution you that they are seriously understaffed and they are having serious clerical errors. This can result in loss of submitted documents, no return phone calls or emails, rude responses, general lack of communication, and can take excessive time to ‘process’ even when they have the documents they need.

Please be aware that if you need help that is time sensitive, you will most likely not receive it until after that date has passed. My heart goes out to those that have these situations arise. As was suggested in an earlier post, I would contact Texas Department Of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) and file a complaint. Document everything.

I will keep this review updated should there be any further updates on how to make this process easier.

My two years old attends this daycare since he was 9 months old. I only have good thing to say about this place. Teachers are loving, caring and warm. Facilities are clean and in good conditions. The administrative staff always go beyond to work with families. My son enjoys going to school.

My three boys had the pleasure of attending Mary Bailey Head Start and all three of them loved it! All three of them built a strong relationship with their teachers. My youngest son started at Rawleigh Elliot Head Start and graduated to Mary Bailey. The transition was so convenient right across the street. He loved Rawleigh Elliot and missed his teachers but loved being able to attend the same classes his brothers were once in. The curriculum that Head Start provides definitely prepared my boys for elementary school. The teachers always kept me informed on the boy's progress. The parent advocates always kept me informed on any programs in the community we qualified for. As a single mother in nursing school, at the time, those programs were very helpful as I completed my degree. I would highly recommend this program to anybody looking for a safe, efficient, learning environment for their children.

Great place!!!! First of all, I would like to say thank you to all the ladies for there hard work, and love and support during this difficult time. The loving and caring is the reason I feel comfortable being able to work. A day doesn't go by, that I don't think the only reason I can be at work is because I trust my grandson is having wonderful time, is safe and well taken care of.
Once again thank you for taking such amazing care of my grandson.
I really appreciate all the little things y'all do.

Applied for case management services. Noticed all documents at front desk were in Spanish & none in English. First, my appointment was cancelled at the last minute then spoke with Community Services Supervisor & explained in detail my career goal. She rescheduled my appointment secretly knowing they weren't going to help me.

I then received a letter dated 2 weeks before my appointment stating that I declined services! Nope! I called & spoke to the Community Services Supervisor & asked her why she signed the letter dated weeks before my appoinment with a caseworker stating that I declined services? She refused to answer my question.

I think they create documentation to fit with their agenda. I never declined services! They declined to help me! I explained my career goal to the Community Service Supervisor yet she never stated my goal was beyond their help! Instead, she rescheduled me with the caseworker who cancelled my appointment at the last minute when they obviously already planned to refuse to help me!

**Update** Went on Jan 4th - first day open - to pick up an application for Energy Asst.. Online it stated there were No online applications & you had to pick one up in person. I got there, a female staff person stated I had to fill out an application online. I told her that it states there are no online applications & we had to pick one up starting that day. She said they would not have any applications ready until the next day but I noticed a woman filling out an application. I was about to leave then took a picture of the phone number on the door because the number I attempted to call several times, no one answered. The female staff person came out with an application & handed it to me stating the director printed some.
As I was waiting to turn in my application, another woman walked up with an application & stated she was sent one in the mail. I've received assistance from Opportunities for 3-4 years now & was not sent an application. I asked the director about not being sent an application. She stated they sent out applications for people over 60yrs old. Funny that these two people who stated they were sent applications appeared to be in late 30's;
however, they just had darker shade of melanin that I. I suspected they discriminated by race & yes, they do. So unfair. Can't help my shade of melanin. Why the race discrimination when this is All taxpayer funded?! Typical.
