The Paragon Program: A Deep Dive

Paragon Service Dogs distinguishes itself through a meticulous and extended training process. They primarily source their dogs from local animal shelters, offering a deserving animal a second chance at a fulfilling life while simultaneously providing a vital service. The dogs undergo an intensive program lasting approximately 18 months, encompassing not just basic obedience, but also complex skills tailored to assist their future partners.

These skills include:

Sound Alerting: Dogs are trained to recognize and alert their handlers to specific sounds – doorbells, telephones, smoke detectors, and more – providing crucial warning signals.
Directional Alerting: Dogs learn to indicate where the sound is coming from, significantly enhancing the handler’s situational awareness.
Retrieval of Items: Many dogs are trained to retrieve dropped objects, minimizing the risk of falls and enhancing independence.
Social Skills: Extensive socialization ensures the dog is comfortable and confident in various public settings.

The dedication to training is evident in the remarkable responsiveness and intelligence of the dogs they produce. The organization clearly places a premium on building strong, reciprocal relationships between dog and handler.

WOW! The work they do here is unbelievable. All dogs are from shelters and put through extensive training before becoming a certified hearing dog and placed with a hearing impaired person. My dog Cherry is a blessing. So smart and so very well trained in responding to sounds and alerting me. Thank you International Hearing Dogs!
