The Pioneer Museum is a hidden gem. My mom and stepdad visited me in August, and my brother and I took them to the museum. None of us had been there before, and we made the grave mistake of getting at ticket at 4 pm, a mere hour before closing. We only had time to look at five of the 40 (!!!) buildings on the premises.

Each one is chock-full of historical Gunnison artifacts, photos, and memorabilia. Some of the actual buildings are original builds from when the town of Gunnison was first erected, including the schoolhouse and the first post office. It's truly a special place, and anyone who lives in or loves Gunnison should spend at least a full afternoon there.

Did I mention they let you drive a golf cart around the property?!

Great place to visit and learn about the pioneer life. We brought 65 scouts out west and this was one of the stops. More than enough to keep them engaged. Well worth the stop if you are driving nearby.

They have a multi million dollar collection of all sorts of things from automobile to saddles to telephone equipment to trains and more! There is so much history to see there, it's hard to see it all in one visit. We've been to other historical museums with homes and buildings but weren't allowed inside them. Here, you are encouraged to go inside and explore them. Our only disappointment was most of the items are in non climate controlled environments and will deteriorate faster. The next time we are in the area, we will definitely go visit again.

A fine museum! There is nothing there that is not incredible! The train is in amazing condition as are the classic cars... and there's a lot of them! There is also a considerable amount of war memorabilia of both world wars. The original buildings are amazing too. The grounds are enormous so if you want to see it all, don't wait until late in the day. They even have the old complete collection of 1976 bicentennial 7up cans I collected as a kid! Absolutely worth seeing!

This place is really a must see! I dare to say one of the greatest in the country? They have something for everyone in the amazing collection of items of the past. From tractors, war artifacts, dolls, collector cars, a train, buildings from the area, school houses, old wagons, cowboy hats, and much much much more! Really incredible to have it all in one place. We spent about 2 hours with a 5 year old and 9 year old. Had we really looked at everything could take days. They have golf carts even for people to drive in to go to each building.

My husband and I travel and work in Colorado 9 months out of the year. Weโ€™ve traveled through Gunnison several times and this museum is a must see. Probably one of the largest collections of west slope material weโ€™ve seen. Little gals at the front desk are great and itโ€™s only $10 per adult. We like to give more in their little donation boxes throughout the grounds. Itโ€™s a must see!

Coming with a toddler we expected to be there an hour and half tops but when we got back to our vehicle we realized 3 hours had gone by. (I had a snack and water packed which helped.) Their shaded outdoor space allowed us to take our time moving in and out of the buildings. The buildings had items displayed in a way that made them easy to view. It was fun to get lost in the past. We loved it.
