I can’t begin to say enough good regarding Bristol Hospice. From our first interview with them they have shown professionalism, compassion and regard for both our wants and needs. From Chaplin Zach, Social Worker Katie and wonderful nurses Carolina and Stephanie, they have all shown my husband nothing but respect and treated him with the greatest care and dignity. If you are in need of Hospice care I would highly recommend you check out Bristol Hospice.

Have only had Bristol for a short time for my 102 year old father, but our interactions with them so far have been caring and professional. They are quick to respond to our calls and the nurses and social worker that we have had contact with are very well versed in our needs. Even my dad says he enjoys having them come and he feels they are tending to his needs.

The caring staff at Bristol went above and beyond to support us all through my Mom's dying process. We appreciated them very much and couldn't be more grateful!

Be aware that a for-profit hospice runs on a cost/benefit analysis. A patient costs hospice the most when they are first enrolled and then when they require more care. When Dad started falling more and Bristol Hospice had to visit him more often, he was costing them more per day than Medicare was paying them. A Bristol nurse came one night and took the phone away from Dad while we were having a wonderful conversation. She wanted to give him morphine because he had been agitated earlier that day. He had just come back from the dining room, was in a pleasant mood and told us both he was in no pain. I begged her to not cause him to be unresponsive and tried to explain that morphine caused him to not be able to swallow. She said she would check on him the next morning. No one checked on him and they continued the "one-time" morphine against my orders. By the time I was able to brave the ice storm and drive the ten hours, it was too late. The unnecessary morphine had caused him to be unresponsive and he died without water and food intake. I was able to spend the last few hours with Dad and had no support from the hospice team during those hours. My last conversation with him had been interrupted by a nurse from Bristol Hospice who needed to give her drugs and get home. Beware of For-Profit hospice companies!

We moved our Dad out of the hospital into hospice care under Bristol to be with our Mom at their assisted living facility. The consulting staff for Bristol at the hospital was excellent - we felt so well informed and supported. And the apartment was transformed quickly to get him home for his final days.

However, once he was admitted (at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday), he was not seen again until nearly 9:30 the next morning and labored most of the night. His laboring increased early in the morning, and despite calls from me beginning before 8, there was a lack of communication between Bristol and the assisted living facility. The staff at their assisted living facility had been in touch with Bristol, but Bristol would not release comfort medications until their nurse arrived, nearly 2 hours later. The communication was poor and I attribute this largely to Bristol.

Once he received medication and the nurse was there, she was good, though she would not address my Mom directly and focused on the rest of us, and Mom should have been her first priority. Dad eventually was comfortable and passed peacefully, but given a choice, I would go with Pathways.

These wonderful, knowledgeable caregivers, in each of their own capacity, were the absolute best I could have prayed for to help my dad. They were truly caring of him and always had time for me, whether it was answering questions or just checking in on dad. They always responded promptly if there was a need and went over and above their responsibilities...... even making a recording of some old songs for him to listen to on an old MP3 player. What a class act this company is, and I am forever grateful for how they approach their customers and honor integrity of individuals in all circumstances.

Very professional service. Dad was made very comfortable in his last hours thanks to Bristol. They work with me over the phone since I am on the east coast and made the whole process easy. It takes a special type of person to help in these situations and Bristol has the right people for the job!!
