A definite safe haven and true benefit to the underprivileged in our community. I have the privilege of working there a few days a week with anyone needing help with Medicare, and I have personally seen residents progress from homeless to an apartment with a job and a new outlook on their future. A wonderful place and a real investment in the humanity of the less fortunate of Colorado Springs.

Complete exploitation of the sick, elderly, mentally ill, and poor. Their programs operate around how much money they receive. They wouldn't allow me to stay there and medically restricted me because I wasn't fully independent and in a wheelchair. I was forced to live across the street in a tent until the city workers helped me. When they looked up my SS# for programs, the worker found Springs Rescue Mission had my SS# enrolled in their most intensive program the entire 6 weeks I was freezing in a tent outside. They do not care about people. It is a money making organization posing as help for the homeless. So many have died because of them. So many horrible things they've done and continue to do. I have all the pictures and videos if anyone ever has the ability to do something about their abuse. NO ONE will hold them accountable because no one cares for the homeless or what happens to them. The saddest part is that they do all this in Jesus name. The discrimination, exploitation, abuse, and deaths. It's got to end.

Wonderful place to volunteer. You get to meet and help our fellow men and women of the community. Springs Rescue Mission truly cares about what they do. When I volunteer it gives me such a sense of purpose and ability to give to others. Please come and volunteer.

They squeeze in everyone into a small room with a half wall between the men and females. There are only 2-3 sets of bunk beds in each side, rest of the people have to literally be in the floor right next to each other. Handicapped people aren't really welcome there unless they can care for themselves. Most of the rooms that used to help people are closed down. Your not allowed to rest during the day if your sick. You have to leave at 7am, unless your staying for the day. Your not allowed to roam around the campus during the day. Your not allowed to sleep during the day. They don't have any medical help at all. If your extremely sick, your out of luck. This place does not help anyone. They hold you back. If you get into a disagreement with staff, (even if they are in the wrong), you get kicked out and not allowed back in til you plead your case. This place needs better management and staff. Hardly anyone gets any sleep because some of the people do drugs before they are let in and keep others awake and staff don't do anything about it. This place is sad and miserable. They need to reopen the dorms so the ladies are completely separate from the guys. They need to open a medical building to help the sick. The place just needs to be better ran.

They do not let you shower when you first come in. At night (which sleeping dirty for some is real sad) They have the guys sleeping on the floor on Mats while they have rows of empty bunk beds behind them. I'm sure if you manage to not get kicked out for pointing out things that seem not so okay, it might be an okay thing, but women are on cots, head to foot. I was kicked out for moving to another cot, and questioning their shower policy.
Better than nothing I suppose, hopefully they can figure out their little issues. I however hope to never return.

Ok, if it's a choice between possible death from freezing outside or survival in a less than desirable shelter I would recommend the Springs Rescue Mission. I mean it's kind of them to offer the absolutely bare minimum of comfort (jail type mattresses) on jail type bunk beds if you're lucky or folding cots. If you're not lucky you get jail type mattresses on a concrete floor. Same breakfast everyday one scoop of an oatmeal like porridge and a sugary soft drink (usually warm). They do offer luke warm water and a cup of ice also. The only time I had the 4:00 dinner it was a small bowl of soup.
Wake-up is around 4 am and you must vacate the building by 7am with constant reminders of this fact by a guy with a megaphone. If you're in the overflow building you must vacate by 6 am. But you can hang out in the main building till 7 am.
Everyone must stand outside, sunshine or blizzard until at least 8 am when the long breakfast line forms outside. Everyone must wait outside, even seriously handicapped people. It seems 1 in 5 people are mentally disturbed. I've seen people get robbed constantly. I had to pee today during breakfast but the restrooms were off limits everywhere in the 'compound'. My last alternative was to leave the main compound and go to the Welcome Center where I stood in line for 10 minutes until I gave up and found an alley to pee. I have a big bladder too. I imagine some people are forced to pee on themselves because of this cruel treatment. They always say it's because of 'drug use' in the restrooms.
Anyway, avoid this place if at all possible. It's more of a cross between a concentration camp and a mental facility than a rescue mission.👎

Rude, kicks you out if you have an attitude and won’t let you back in not even when it’s below freezing. Won’t tell you the rules and expectations . Staff members threaten you. Not a comfortable or safe place to be. If you care about someone there they will tell you that you should take care of them if you’re worried .
