I've been on several trips with VetEx and it is a great experience every time. What could be better than getting out with a bunch of like minded folks with similar backgrounds and going skiing, climbing and backpacking? 10/10. Can't wait for additional trips.

Initially I was hesitant to write this review because Veterans Expeditions is a nonprofit organization, but I think people need to know about this. If you are a Veteran I would think twice before you spend your time and money on this. I’m a Veteran myself who spent 13 years in active service. Veterans Expeditions is not a professional organization. If you were planning on donating, or are currently donating money to Veterans Expeditions you might want to reconsider. There are many Veteran groups in the community that are making a difference and changing Veterans lives for the better.
I went out with this group to the Lake City Ice Park two seasons in a row and both times they made the same mistakes. The night before the first day of climbing during the safety brief they reiterate that they were going to have a lot of ropes set up and that the ropes needed to be in use, or they would have to take them down to open up the route to other climbing parties. While this is true they waited until the park got busy to set their ropes up and were only able to set two ropes up. They had a line of 4 Veterans waiting to climb at each rope so obviously everybody got cold. The first trip I went on with them I had asked if we could set up earlier because the park gets busy on Saturdays. They dismissed my request and told me that the Lake City Ice Park isn’t that popular and there wouldn’t be that many people in the park. I new that wasn’t true because I climb there a lot. When we got out to the park and it was crowded they pretended to be surprised. The second season I went out with them they pretended to be surprised again. They were setting up in the first part of the park closest to town which was good because most of the Veterans there were beginning climbers. If they had started setting up around 8:30AM or earlier there would have been more options to put ropes.
When another route opened up I asked if they could set a rope up and Nathan decided he wanted to use it as an opportunity to practice leading instead of just setting top rope up. This would have been fine, but he took about 50 minutes to get to the top and build the anchor. At about 3:00PM when I asked Nathan if I could take another lap he said him and Scott were going to go split boarding so he was taking the ropes down. Scott and Nathan are both instructors with Veterans Expeditions. That was a selfish decision given the fact that we all had spent money to be part of this activity and taken long drives to get there. During the evening climb they only set one rope up. There were around eight Veterans that had to wait to take turns on one rope and only got to do one lap per Veteran. When one of the Veterans brought this up during the end of day review they dismissed it by asking “You got enough laps in during the day time right?”
I had another trip booked with them, but I decided to donate it back to Veterans Expeditions. After that second trip I was baffled on what to think and just decided to bury the experience. Veterans Expeditions advertises themselves as an organization that helps Veterans with mental health care. What is quite contradictory is that during the safety brief they reiterate the point of if you don’t click with them, or you don’t have the right type of personality you will be told to leave. What is suspicious is that they spend a lot of time harping on that point during the brief. Removing a Veteran from a group just because you don’t like there personality, or because there not fitting in is needless to say not a way to improve Veterans mental health care, or improve their quality of life. Everyday a Veteran commits suicide. There are numerous Veterans in the community that are lonely, feeling isolated, struggling physically, mentally and emotionally. If you are reading this and you are one of those Veterans I wouldn’t recommend going out with this group. There are many other veterans groups that can be found online with a web search.

I've gone out on many trips over the years with Veterans Expeditions and can't stress how amazing this organization is. The community built on their trips is so important for veterans adjusting to life after the military and I wouldn't be here today without their support in finding a sense of purpose and belonging through the outdoors. Top notch!

Was able to attend of one of their awesome events at Mash Lab Brewery in Colorado. Met the team and lots of local veterans who love the outdoors and adventures. They also had a silent auction with amazing products from Sterling ropes, Osprey packs, Badfish paddle board, and many more. Great organization with a great cause.

I've gone out with VetEx multiple times over the years, and far and away the best organization of its type out there! The people are great, the leaders are friendly and knowledgeable, and most importantly the organization gives back to the veteran community in a way few can, giving those individuals purpose and a sense of belonging again. Thanks again VetEx for all you DO!
