The Tesoro Cultural Center in Morrison, Colorado, offers a truly special experience for those seeking to reconnect with the roots of traditional powwows. As one of the rare venues in the state where outdoor powwow dancing still thrives, it sets itself apart with its stunning natural backdrop. The dancing grounds are framed by a beautiful rock formation that feels almost like a boulder amphitheater, enhancing the sense of place and connection to nature.

For someone like me, who grew up attending outdoor powwows as a child, this venue brings back memories of a time when dancing in the open air was the norm, not the exception. The outdoor setting evokes a deep connection to the land, an element often lost in today’s indoor events. Here, the rhythmic drumbeats seem to blend with the surrounding environment, creating a sense of unity that is both powerful and nostalgic.

The Tesoro Cultural Center powwow is not just an event—it’s an experience that harks back to a time when nature and culture were intertwined. It’s a place where you can feel the heartbeat of tradition in a setting that honors the spirit of the land. If you long for a powwow that rekindles the essence of outdoor gatherings from years past, this is a must-visit.

How can a place that supposedly respects and cherishes Native American culture expect powwow dancers to happily ruin their regalia by forcing us to dance in the rain ZERO respect for the time, money and effort put into our sacred dance regalia. If this place truly respected us dancers, they would have a DECENT venue for us to dance in that is protected from the elements!

The Fort's Indian Market and Pow Wow is held here in spring. It a Best-of-the-Best show of invitation-only artists, mostly fr the Southwestern US. There are storytellers, Tocabe food truck, a Veterans display, HawkQuest booth with an eagle, owl and kestrel, a children's art project area and historical materials display - along with the dozens of artist's booths and Pow Wow dancing on lower grassy area.
