Let me start by saying this is not a 1-star review of the entire facility. The staff is friendly and the facility is clean and kept up. My husband and I are in our 50s. We recently rejoined after being away for many years.

We immediately rediscovered our love of racquetball. It is a fantastic cardiovascular, full-body workout with excellent mental health components. We are both right-hand dominant and play 15 min of every session left-handed to help stave off cognitive decline.

We have met so many nice folks playing here and are truly inspired by those in their 70s and 80s who are moving like they’re in their 40s and 50s which says a lot about the health benefits of this sport.

We would very much appreciate the Y’s consideration in NOT converting the back court into yet another area for children. It seems there are plenty of areas and activities for kids. Instead, why not encourage younger folks and kids(!) to try racquetball. We’ve seen kids playing and loving it. We’ve also been watched by curious kids many times!

Thanks for listening!

The Briargate Y offers a welcoming atmosphere, well-maintained *NEW* equipment, and a great variety of fitness classes. The staff is friendly and supportive, creating a community feel that makes exercising enjoyable- not intimidating. Whether you’re into strength training, cardio, or group workouts, there’s something for everyone. The facility is clean, and the amenities—like the pool and basketball courts—add extra value, especially for those rain or snow days when you need to get the kids active and out of the house! It’s a great place for all fitness levels, all ages. Parents night out, Y family events, and child watch are added bonuses!

I've been working out at the YMCA for a little over 2 years now. I love doing Zumba so I'm appreciative of the availability of the different variety of classes they offer. Having access to the eGym is perfect for those who come in & get overwhelmed with all the equipment; you just scan your bracelet & proceed down the line of 10 machines. My personal trainer Jackie is amazing & has the ability/knowledge to change up the workout when I acquire a new physical injury (outside of the gym). She's able to find ways to challenge me during the workout without causing more injury & still have a great workout. So glad I joined.

I am not one who usually writes reviews but at this time I feel it is very important to express my opinion.
We have been members of the YMCA for 20 plus years. We brought our children to the nursery, swim lessons, and various activities. Over the years as they grew, so did their interests. My husband and I both enjoy playing racquetball and all 5 of our children have played with us throughout the years. Now we are empty nesters and we still play 3-5 times a week. I wonder how long this will last? To learn last week that 1 of the 2 racquetball courts will be being repurposed is A SHAME! The YMCA offers 2 courts for the whole north end of the springs area and now they want to take one away. WOW!! Racquetball is a community of people who share interests in a sport, community and friendship. Why not repurpose another room in the gym being there is ONLY 2 courts for the whole north end.
Its saddens me to realize that my INTERESTS and my REASONS for joining the YMCA are NOT IMPORTANT!
The sign posted on the court door thanks the members for understanding, I don’t feel understood! I feel tossed aside, unimportant and disregarded.

The following text was sent to the YMCA management as an email regarding the usage of racquetball courts.

Greeting

I have been a YMCA member for over thirty years. One year, during the membership drive, I had my picture taken and was on the radio. The message that was played on the radio was, “The YMCA is more than a place to exercise, it is a community.” I love being a member.

Racquetball players are more than a group of people who enjoy the sport; they are a community. One of these community members offered to teach me racquetball, which has been one of the greatest gifts I have ever received. I am genuinely thankful for the members’ presence in my life. We have a ninety-year-old man that we aspire to be at his age.

The community has times with lots of players and times with fewer players, just as the weight rooms, aerobics rooms, etc., have periods that are not used. I have been in classes with three members.

I have known some players for decades. The group knows the names of their spouses and children. We have had to attend several funerals for revered players. The turnout for funerals has always been a large group of players. Players have hosted parties at their homes.

Respect, honor, and friendship between players have built this community. Closing the court will negatively impact this community. The YMCA’s greatest asset is its community. I could discuss so many types of interactions that reflect this fact.

I would ask that you reconsider the court changes and allow the racquetball community to continue without being negatively affected.

Also, the sign on the court door thanks the member for understanding. We do not understand why the YMCA is impacting this YMCA community.

Robert Dudding is extremely happy with his Personal Trainer, Jackie Griffin. She is very positive and encouraging. He really feels he is improving. We plan on signing up for another 24 sessions.

I’m a member only to play racquetball. 50% of our court time has been taken. Our group of players had no input into the decision. We’re told just go “downtown”. Well most of us live in this area. Downtown is not a great option. There’s not many places we can play anymore. It is so unfair!

This is my second time to have Jackie Griffin is my personal trainer.
I have a lot of physical issues that affect my balance and walking gait.
At the present time I use a cane and am very afraid of falling.
Jackie is working with me on strengthening my legs and my stamina. She is very patient, and uses a variety of exercises each time we meet. I have an hour session with her each week.
She is the best!!
