Genuine organization and volunteers helping those in need in our community. Incredible to see the professionalism, care and partnership with local businesses (like Sprouts) to reach out in impactful ways to those that could use a little help. Clients maintain their dignity, while receiving help, and feed their family with quality food! An A+ organization!

Very disappointed with this organization and their unwillingness to meet people where they are at. I am a registered nurse and had heard about this organization after looking for food resources for one of my new patients who had just had a newborn. I went to the hub and filled out information for my client. I was also asked if I wanted to nominate this family to Adopt-A-Family, so I did. I asked them if I was able to nominate other families on my caseload that I knew were struggling. They said absolutely! So I went on and nominated two other families. I was very honest with the volunteers and told them that my client the first one I nominated was monolingual, did not have an email or phone number with service as it had recently been shut off. I also said that one of the other families did not have transportation. (Two out of the three families) They said I could use my information for the time being for my first client who did not have a method communication. I filled out the application and shortly after got an email to complete the second part of the registration which involved going to a church and filling out information for each child. I did as I was instructed on the email and headed to the church to fill out the rest of the information as my client did not have transportation and had just given birth. When I finished the information a volunteer came to take the clipboard from me and then shortly after another person said that they couldn’t give me the ticket for the Christmas gifts because the person applying for the Christmas gifts needed to be there in person. I explained to them that I was the nurse who nominated the family and that they could not be there because they did not have transportation. I told them that I was told at the hub that I could pick up the gifts and bring them to the family. They said that I could not do that for this family that they needed to be there in person to register and to also get connected with a church. They also said that the family could take the bus to come to the church and sign up in person. I expressed my disappointment with this and that this family didn’t even have money to put food on the table. I said that that managing the transportation system would be extremely overwhelming As they did not speak English and their level of education was that of a first grader. They still said they were unable to help me. I left extremely disappointed and decided to reach out to the coordinator of Adopt-A-Family the following day. I explained the situation and she was also unwilling to understand where I was coming from and to try to meet this family where they were at. Her suggestion was for me and this family to look for a similar community resource for Christmas gifts. She also said that someone who spoke in Spanish would be reaching out to the client to try to do the second process over the phone. Well not surprisingly this never happened. Nobody ever reached out to her. I told her that I hoped that in the future they are able to review their processes and be willing to change certain aspects. If we as professionals are able to nominate families to their programs we also should be able to facilitate certain things for our clients such as transporting gifts to them when they are unable to come in person. I was so devastated that in the middle of a pandemic and a church out of all places completely shut this family down. I really hope that their board of directors reads this comment evaluates it, and reviews their processes. So sad for these families who could’ve really used the Christmas help! I now know that unfortunately this agency doesn’t work for everybody especially the most vulnerable people in our community. I also think that they should tell the people who are able to nominate families that after the nomination they are absolutely NOT allowed to facilitate anything else for the family they nominated. This way we know if we should still go ahead and nominate a family or simply move on with a different organization that has less barriers for vulnerable families.

They serve people the right way, and for the right reason. It is not just about giving out things, but providing aid and tools to help them help themselves. Most Charities only make people become more dependent on them to give them more. This is clearly a Christian based ministry. It is open to all who want to be helped.

I’m having major surgery in a week and I am about to be evicted. I just spent three hours that serves six. Eight asking for help but because I am a man I’m assuming, I left with an apple and a pat on the back. Do not waste your time guys it does not matter how great your need is. Cody is not a man of God!
