Any time we are out of town we find a church to visit on Sundays. This was a beautiful little church tucked into the Estes Park Valley. Very welcoming and you feel like family even when just visiting.

This church seems to be headed down a troubling path. I was visiting Estes Park, and it would seem this is the only Catholic Church of any stripe in the area for Mass.

The structure itself has raw beauty that has been marred with weird additions that detract from both the original beauty and reverence including a really bizarre green backlighting scheme for the stone reredos and Crucifix reminiscent of bad Hollywood lighting for a horror flick. Next are ad hoc stage floodlights above the alter throwing the whole visual beauty into glaring disarray; this is all topped off with two large obnoxious bright green LCD TV screens that announce the next hymn. Hanging down in front of the altar is a makeshift (and quite unnecessary) speaker system that distorts the sound quality of the Priest.

During the Mass I attended, they didn't follow the GIRM, but rather, innovation was the order of the day as the Priest cracked jokes, made various announcements and comments throughout, presumably in order to show us tourists how cool, hip and relevant the “service” was. There was no times of silence during Mass, but ersatz guitar music or announcements or other distractions occuring throughout.

Although the congregation was quite small, (and by a show of hands, the majority were summer tourists), there were four “Extraordinary Ministers” assisting the deacon and the Priest with communion. People shuffled up to the altar wearing cut-off shorts, Crocs, T-shirts, and whatever else happened to be lying around as they walked out their door on their way to church. Communion had all the reverence of catching a quick cheeseburger at McDonald's.

If you are a serious Catholic looking for a holy Mass or a profound spiritual experience, you are out of luck. You will realize that you're attending just to satisfy your Sunday obligation. So hold your nose and go, because they are the only game in town.

This is a very beautiful Church, with rock and timber structure. We always enjoy attending here because of the Priests, the choir and the members of the Church.

We had our wedding at this church and it was wonderful! It was a wonderful experience and we cannot thank the staff and priest enough. We are not local to Estes Park and planned our wedding from afar. Cindy, the wedding coordinator, was amazing to work with and made everything seamless. We could not have been happier with our experience. This is a beautiful church and helped created a beautiful day for us to celebrate our love. The priest gave a beautiful homily during the wedding and made even those who aren’t Catholic, like myself, feel welcome. For couples who are considering a Catholic wedding in Colorado, I cannot recommend Our Lady of the Mountains enough!

This church is a church that rivals the beauty of the most magnificent cathedrals in its raw beauty of nature. Over 60% of the church is made of natural materials from the surrounding area. The logs that are the roofs support as well as the logs that finish the walls above the moss rock are as relaxing as sitting in the middle of the forest. Even if one is not Catholic, stopping and sitting silent in this church is a spiritual moment. It is a comfortable way to experience the Catholic Mass if one has never attended one. The people are relaxed and friendly. It is a place where even if one might be a bit uncomfortable, the structure and the spirit of those in the church provide peace.
