Elk Grove Food Bank is a very welcoming and helpful place for people in unfortunate situations. This place has a variety of foods house hold items and clothing for you and your family. They even at times have items you wouldn't think of. They get donations from random places, and sometimes they have furniture and other things you may need. Just make sure you come early because the line gets pretty long. The clothes closet has sizes for everyone, but sometimes not as many choices. They even give you vouchers for books for your children. One thing that I noticed is that if you have a large family size, they try to accommodate you with bigger food items like meats, dairy, and bread. They even have diapers and cat and dog food. One tip is to be sure to check the freshness date on your food items so you don't get something spoiled or stale. Otherwise, this place is a good place to come.

after waiting over an hour in line, a guy wheeled out a cart with 4 bags of food on it.
i began to pack my bag, while he berated me for not having a car.

"you dont have wheels?!" as he looked around expecting the others in line to laugh along with him.

i am collecting food from a foodbank on foot.

does it seem appropriate to berate poor people begging for aid?

worse yet, after i explained i had two functional feet, he takes the rest of the food on the cart back into the warehouse.

i was insulted and confused.

being poorer than the other folks in line meant i received less aid than they did.

does this seem appropriate?
does this seem reasonable?

i have a fracture in my leg i cant afford to fix. i cant afford groceries. or meds. or soap.

but i can afford to be polite.

Been donating and "shopping" for food and clothes for years. They truly are plugged into the community and are a beacon of perfection all around. The volunteers here are more than wonderful and helpful in every process on both the receiving and giving of everything they offer. Elk Grove is so lucky to have such a fine resource. They're the best.

Be prepared to WAIT. Upon opening at 10 a.m., already a long line of customers and it has taken OVER AN HOUR to register 19 people. Incredible generous, giving operation, but the registration is PAINFULLY slow, lobby gets crowded, extremely difficult for those with mobility disabilities. Volunteers just waiting to help customers, due to slow registration process.

Called to verify location and hours and the associate was very personable and helpful. Found the location easily to donate some food items. Two very friendly associates brought a cart out to my car to unload the bags and boxes. The site was clean and well organized. Customers were picking up food and being helped to their cars. Overall seems to be well run by people who truly care.
