Course is great, well kept but the staff is garbage, “Brian” whoever that is in the pro shop, one major D bag , turned down a golf cart rental to my buddy who is a war veteran and who served this country because the 18s had priority over the mountain 9 course , the club manager should be ashamed, been a customer at that course for a while now but after this I have to reconsider, shame on the staff.

We have played Whittier many times. The greens were in good condition, running a little slow. There were quite a few gopher holes, which was unusual. The fairways were ok, with some bare spots. We played behind a fivesome, which had never happened before. Hopefully, that will not be a normal occurrence. It's a nice, straightforward course with small greens and very easy to walk.

As a long-time member of this course, I recently cancelled my membership. First, its ball retrieval equipment is very old, and we often only get one-third of the balls we should get. Second, the manager of this course does not treat every member fairly and equally. Because SCGA pays more fees to the course, it enjoys the six practice balls and the entire practice green during prime time every day. No matter if there are other members practicing there, we will be kicked out! The course does not follow the first-come, first-served rule! Many members think that since the course does not reserve fixed positions for SCGA, it should be equally based on the first-come, first-served principle, instead of being very rude and asking the first-arrived guests to give up their seats to the party who pays more! I think every member of the course should share all the facilities of the course equally, instead of depriving others of the rights of those who pay more!

I’ve had the sprinklers come on during my round while the sun was still out 3 times at this golf course, ending my round an hour earlier than the sun would allow. Additionally, all LA city courses are now allowing groups of 5 to play. Without proper starter management, this leads to fights on the golf course and frustration when the starter has a 2 going out behind a 5. Starters are nice dudes and try their best but the management and American golf are greedy and insincere.

Update: just played a 5.5hr round on a Tuesday here. Stuck behind a party of three with three open holes ahead of them. Pressured by multiple groups behind all day. Not fun.

One plus: order the chicken tenders and fries. It’s the only thing worth buying here.

Course is trash. Greens are more like yellows with patches of green, with debris littered everywhere. They also make you play in a 5 man in the morning tee times and then have the marshal rush you if you take too long to find the ball you just hit, which you can't find because of the debris. Then, the next hole, you're stuck waiting for the group before you to tee off, because the marshal rushed you.

Tl;dr, course is trash and marshal is too. Never coming back.

The Pros:
Course condition is fine and decent. There are patches of dry grass here and there in the summer time, but gets better if it rains. Southern California is expected to be dry. The greens is also decent with good ball motion when putting. Not the best, but far from worst. Fairways are large with good lies and decent grass. There are some tall roughs on the side. Easy to lose balls. This course is perfect for golf improvement. This course has 27 holes. The main 18 holes River and Pine course is almost 7000 yards. The Mountain course is a good size 9 hole for everyone. They have a $50 monthly membership that includes a free bucket of range balls everyday. 1/2 price on cart rental and free at twilight. Awesome deal.

The Cons:
Some areas of the course could use some repairing and cut the grass down a little.
A large bucket here is $18. A bit expensive compared to others.
The range has no shade, extremely hot in summer sun
The range close at 9pm, but if you get there at 7, there's always a line waiting to get balls. They need more range balls. The line is to wait for the staff to go fetch the balls back from the range.
Balls are not washed after pick up from range. Very muddy.
Facility miss management. Cleaness is not there forte. Restroom is always out of toilet papers and seat covers. No one seems to keep the place clean. I believe these are very much a management issues. Alhambra is much much cleaner.

Two stars for the staff and greens. Course is in rough condition and that’s the irony. The fairways played like the rough, as in not mowed in a while. Lots of dirt patches as well. Not sure if we would play here ever again. It would be one star if it wasn’t super twilight and they let us go out 15 mins early because the course was pretty empty. It played slowed because it took a while to find your ball, even when on the fairway or just off. Greens were true though and in decent shape.

And my cart died. Thanks good ness it was at 18!

visited there for a driving range, $5 for small bucket and $12 for big one. visited another day for 18 holes (River+Pine) total 6812 yards a bit long, the fairway is a mess, just like hazard, very flat with no up and down; however the green in good condition.
