I had been keeping an eye on a dog at the Bakersfield SPCA for months, and I couldn’t believe my luck when she was still there waiting for us when the time was finally right. Booking a meet and greet was incredibly simple, and the team worked quickly to get us scheduled. While our dogs didn’t immediately hit it off, I could tell there was potential, and the staff made us feel confident in the process. We ended up adopting her, and it truly has been the best decision we’ve ever made. She’s brought so much joy to our lives! I’m incredibly grateful to the SPCA staff for their patience and support throughout the entire process. They made sure we found the perfect match, and we couldn’t be happier with our new family member. Thank you so much for helping us bring this sweet girl into our home! She’s been with us since September 2023. 🫶

We had a wonderful experience last weekend when we rescued from the Bakersfield, SPCA. They do a thorough check to ensure their pets go to good homes. We brought our dog to a meet and greet with the puppy we were interested in adopting, and it went smoothly. We had no issues and everyone there was so kind. I'm confused by some of the reviews because we had a great experience! We are so lucky and thankful we were able to rescue Northern after losing our cavalier King Charles last year. We are so excited for our new adventure as a family of four again.

The staff here at this facility are extraordinarily rude and completely unprofessional. My family tried to take a stray dog here that was in need of medical help. They yelled at us, refused to help us, and told us to leave their facility. They told my 10-year-old daughter to get leave the facility and made her cry. When I called them on the phone later to discuss the situation they refused to give me any of their names, called me a liar, refused to transfer my call to a supervisor, and hung up the phone on me two times. I have had many dealings with the SPCA in other cities and have never had a problem with anyone. I will be calling the national organization of the SPCA to discuss the Bakersfield staff and their completely unacceptable behavior. Do not go here for help with animals, they must treat the animals as poorly as people who are just trying to help.

Tried to adopt a cat and they told me they had to reach out to my landlord. I don't have one, I live with my boyfriend and his father lives with us. Their application did not give me an option to put neither rent or own so I couldn't specify I don't rent from anyone. They did not want to speak to my boyfriend and instead constantly wanted to speak to his father even when I repeatedly said that I don't rent from him and he is out of the country at the moment and can not be contacted with his phone number. They wouldn't accept an email or a call to them from his burner out of the country and just made it incredibly difficult. Slightly insulting as well that they wanted to speak to him like I am a child when, again, I DONT RENT FROM HIM. Going to just let my application expire because they made it way too difficult for me even despite trying multiple avenues with them. Also, the people on the phone were all rude and disrespectful, the other reviews don't lie about that.

Very disappointed with the service here. The two female employees that I dealt with were very rude and discouraging. Starting with the phone call, to when I checked in, to when I left. They were unfriendly, had negative attitudes, and left me feeling treated like I was a burden. I worry about how the animals are treated here if they can’t treat a person with respect.

Great service to the community. There are lots of options to adopt a rescue.

The SPCA has lost any of my support, and I feel they have lost their way in understanding what their purpose should be in our community. They have had our application for 2 weeks to “review” in short evidently because we will not commit to keep our selected cats inside the house all the time. In the end, they didn’t want to hear anything about what their living environment would be…. don’t seem to care.

The two kittens we just adopted from the local animal shelter are now living it up! They love playing in our secure courtyard during the day, climbing their cat tree, and adore all the love my daughters are giving them. Another benefit, the animal shelter is actually effectively clearing their shelter to unite animals needing adoption with loving families, something important to us when adding a pet to our family. They will now have my support!

We adopted our German Shepherd 10 years ago when he was 11 months. Best decision we ever made! They were helpful and patient while we found a pet. Steve is a wonderful addition to our family. The only thing i don’t like is how they clean the cages. They hose them down and to this day my dog is still scared of water. As soon as we saw Steve we knew he was the one and so glad we took him because another person was at his cage asking to see him but we were already in the paperwork process. They spay/neuter and chip your pet. Which is amazing! They even give you a voucher to take your pet to the vet to make sure he is in good health. If for whatever reason he isn’t you can bring them back and get a refund Or choose a different pet. Price may be a little high but it goes back into the shelter and it is my understanding that it is a no kill shelter.
