I am a Veteran Commander who flew my Gunship, a US Army Cobra, 441 and I know warriors. Shay and his wife Michi have been there for me, stood beside me, defended me and are quite a blessing to me. They fought for me. Inspired me to keep going, esp., after loosing my wife during this battle process.

Shay is an exemplary professional, knows his business and his wife's merits exceed anything my frail words of sincere gratitude for Shay and Michi can convey other than you want a seasoned professional? Atticus matched me with J. Shay Guess after I was denied in January 2023.

The first time we spoke on the phone, Mr. Guess put me at ease. It wasn’t his vast knowledge or easy manner of explaining otherwise mind numbing disability requirements and rules. Impressive as that was, it was Mr. Guess’s compassion that stood out.

I was ready to give up. I tried in vain to navigate my way through another application for the 3rd time in 5 years only to be denied. I felt completely alone and beyond hopeless by the time I met Mr. Guess. I had lost my parents, family , and my home and I was ready to give up my life.
I cried telling him my story, while he patiently listened. When I was finished, his exact words were, “ You are not alone anymore.”. He proceeded to explain why he thought I had a good case, how he could argue it, and what I could expect during the process.

For the next seventeen months, his assistant, Michie Guess guided me through mountains of paperwork, deadlines, gathering my records, constantly changing meds, and endless doctor appointments.

Her attention to detail surpassed only by her compassion. She was persistent and tough when I wanted to give up, and she talked me through days I was so overwhelmed I couldn’t leave my bed. Michie patiently answered every panicked text and returned every late night /weekend call. Not with platitudes, with clear plans and calls to action. A constant reminder of our goal and how we would get there.

The day before my hearing, Mr. Guess stepped back in to prep me for my hearing. I went into that phone call full of doubts about my case and fear of another denial. We spoke for ninety minutes and after he explained his arguments, and how he saw my case, I felt confident and at ease.

I had a phone hearing which lasted less than 3 minutes. He had prepared such a complete clear brief the judge agreed and issued a fully favorable decision without any testimony from anyone.

Shay and Michie have continued to assist me in getting backpay, benefits started, and referred me to someone to help navigate Medicare and Medicaid.

I am grateful for Mr. and Mrs. Guess. They both go above and beyond to help their clients. They made me feel like their only client, though I know there were many. I believe they are a gift from God sent to help me. I will be forever thankful to Him for leading me to J. Shay and Michie Guess.
