I visited Hope Lodge May 14th- June 4th 2024 as a care giver for my step mom Loretta McGough. We were only there 3 and 1/2weeks for 15 days of radiation treatments. The Lodge is amazing, you get to know so many special people from the staff to patients and care givers.I pray each and every person that enters Hope Lodge has peace, love ,and healing.

I am currently staying at Hope Lodge while undergoing treatment at UAB. I was astounded to learn that such a wonderful place exists for those who must travel long distances for treatment. The staff and amenities and the other patients themselves are all phenomenal. There is an industrial sized kitchen, laundry, workout room, nice bedrooms, great security … I could go on and on.
For the reviewer who was upset because she’d waited a year for a room, I’d say to contact her doctor for a referral if he or she is at UAB. Mine recommended Hope Lodge for me & I had no problem whatsoever. There are many patients staying here with more serious illnesses than I have. I can’t imagine the staff making a decision that a cancer isn’t bad enough.
I thank Hope Lodge, its donors and staff for making my life so much easier on this journey. I hope I won’t need its services in the future but I will always think fondly of my stay here and hold this wonderful place in high regard.

My wife and I had the privilege of staying 2 nights recently prior to my surgery. The kindness we were shown was amazing. I felt like I was at home among family and friends. Words can't describe The Hope Lodge and what it means to my wife and I. Thank for everything.

We have waited over a year to leave a review hoping jenifer or someone would reach out to us to hear our cry n mistreatment from one staff member from the Birmingham Hope Lodge, however no luck! Again,You think someone would hear our cry for the truth n facts of how we were mistreated by a couple unfriendly , unprofessional bad apples at this Hope Lodge in Birmingham !! They should have pulled the phone recording to hear the truth of how we n my husband were mistreated by these mean individuals. This behavior certainly doesn’t represent n reflect the Hope Lodge n their mission..My husband n all here , at the Patric F. Taylor Hope Lodge n at every other Hope Lodge all r battling cancer!
My husband and I have been trying to get a reservation n stay here at the Hope Lodge in Birmingham for over a year. After an awful and hateful encounter w one staff member , we were told “his CANCER is not bad enough or there are people worse off than him needing longer stays “, This was repeated to us once again by Jennifer n we have to say; there are always two sides to every story n our complaints seemed to fall on deaf ears. I’m sure u know,
No Cancer is a good cancer and ALL CANCER is Bad !! We have never been treated so wrong by anyone else or any other member of The American Cancer Society than the awful treatment we received from Jennifer n her hateful staff member. She knows who she is!! It was a full blown out verbal confrontation while my husband was talked to like a Dog.!!! WRONG , WRONG, WRONG!!!! My husband was only defending himself! . They threatened to “Blaclist “ us from staying at any and all Hope Lodges!! Beside my husband battling cancer, he has many troubling severe disabilities.. He Fought for this county n our freedoms of all ,
but didn’t fight for how he was wronged by a few. ! Can Anyone help us Anyone?
We have stayed at the Hope Lodge in New Orleans which is an 8 hour drive verses 3 or 4 hours to Birmingham. We have always had a great experience there in New Orleans, Hope lodge and everyone is always, n I mean , always so nice and makes you feel welcome. I hope one day we will be able to stay in Birmingham as it is getting harder for my husband to make the trip to New Orleans. We are avid contributors to the American Cancer Society they have done great things for us on our journey. We would like to thank Jordan and her staff at the Hope Lodge in New Orleans for their warm kindness n always making us feel welcome.

American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge is such a wonderful asset to those facing a cancer diagnosis. The services they provide to patients and their families really ease the burden and cost of the peripherals of dealing with a serious illness, such as lodging and meals. I've volunteered a few times and it's a blessing to serve. You can call and arrange a time to bring a meal for the residents and just talk with them while you're there. My family has been touched by cancer, and this place is a great way to empathize, laugh or cry with, and help those going through something difficult. They definitely deserve the support of the community.

This is a very clean and well equipped facility providing a beacon of light and easing a financial burden of lodging at a difficult time in the lives of the people that enter their doors. You ha e a place to keep your food that you might bring there cold. I wish the ruling on no food or drink in the rooms would be reevaluated. I had facial surgery and made my face and tops messy and it felt very demeaning to be forced to eat in front of others, if I ate there. Many times you don't even feel like doing much more than doing yourradiation much less going down to eat. I frequently did drive thrus and ate my food in the car. I went to bed most nights very thirsty and woke up very thirsty due to not having drinks in room and also due to my lips don't meet now. The radiation staff encourage you to stay hydrated.
Also, I advise you bring extra sheets to switch out when you are laundering yours. You frequently have to wait on the washers or dryers to free up. There are churches and families that are kind enough to provide meals some. I lived 2 hrs away and still tried to work a few hours a week so I usually stayed the night 2 or 3 nights a week. It was a refuge for one of the hardest times of your life.
