It would be ZERO if possible. Husband of 35 years dropped dead. All IHSS and Social Security stopped/ended. Applied for EBT. Had a problem. Called worker dozens of times pleading for help. No pickup, no return calls. EBT was cut off. Now I await the end as NO ONE will hire an old grieving woman who cannot fake a smile in this misogynistic culture. Hire competent people who actually value having a job and respect their clients. Is that just too big an ask? Thanks for your time.

I had a phone interview with Ms. Bean on Sept 6th, I waited for her to call and she never called. A couple hours later, I called her and she never answered. I left a voimail. No call back. Received a letter that I missed my phone interview. I went online to reschedule the interview and never got a call. Reschedule a couple more times and left Ms. Bean voimails. NO CALLS! nothing. I called the service number and it either didn't go through or the wait time was always more the 10 minutes. One day I waited for more than 4 hours, almost 5 hours and still the wait was more than ten mins.. My worker is now on vacation and my foodstamps have been cutoff... this is the worst possible time for something like this to happen. Also my renewal was due Sept 30th, I submitted my paperwork on August 28th.

Waited for days after being told to come back only to find out after 2 days that my benefits had expired and I needed to reapply which I could do online where it is supposed to be a faster process. Place is more efficient then some other offices but definitely can use some help to operate fairly and efficiently.

Today was my second visited to this office this week to talk about a concern I have with my Calfresh case. I was given a ticket with the letter O followed by my number. I then proceeded to wait 3 hours in the office for my letter and number to be called. During that time a man inside yelled at another and a fight broke out at the entrance that security responded to. I saw uncomfortable, exhausted looking people searching for seats to wait in. I don’t attribute any of the challenges I experienced today to employees in this office but to Calfresh and Unemployment as a system. I also do wonder how much change even managerial employees at this office could do so people feel can feel valued. When I finally reached a worker today, they told me they are not a Calfresh worker and gave me a number to call. The number was for my case worker’s supervisor who works for the county. Turns out they are on vacation until the end of the month. I’m left off at a similar place to where I began when I walked into the office.

This county office location is barely functional.
Unstaffed regularly in intake with an access of employees who rarely engage with the overrepresented Black residents of the city of Oakland. This facility has gotten progressively worse over the two decades and is legally liable for misappropriation of benefits and services and fails to produce any measurable stability improvements in subsidized services especially housing , general assistance and employment building resources.

I had a good experience at this office! Expect an experience like the DMV. You check in and get a number. There are people from all walks of life here getting help. They have signs and announcements in several languages. The alameda county representatives are professional and courteous. I think these humans are really doing a commendable job helping a huge range of people. I needed to submit verification documents for assistance eligibility. It was straight forward and I was there less than an hour. They do have a secure drop box for documents too. The rep advised me to get a receipt so i waited for a human at the window to help me. Worth the effort! Worth the time. Good job Oakland and Alameda County!

Signing up for benefits was easy, but getting my benefits terminated, because I moved out of state and need Medicaid in my new home state, has been impossible. I sent in the forms, no one responds. I upload the documents on line, no one responds. I call the numbers, and no one responds. Voicemails are full. That was over six weeks ago, and I’m running out of time, medication, and patience.
